After the fall of the Roman Empire, Europe experienced the Middle Ages, or the Medieval Period. This period is usually divided into three sub-periods, the Early Middle Ages, the High Middle Ages, and the Late Middle Ages. It was a time roughly from 400 AD to 1500 AD. Advances were made in the Church, government, art, architecture, weaponry, daily life, and technology. This unit will examine the major aspects of the Middle Ages.

Part 1 - Readings in core knowledge about the Middle Ages - students will read and learn the core text dealing with the Early, High and Late Middle Ages.

Part 2 - Art and Architecture - students will view the major works of art and typical features of architecture from the time.

Part 3 - Medieval Manor - students will come to understand what life on the Medieval Manor was like.

Part 4 - Feudalism - students will examine the structure of the Feudal government system.

Part 5 - The Church - students will read about the role of the Church in people's everyday lives.

After the students read and are familiar with the core knowledge, they will perform the following projects. First students will perform the Middle Ages WebQuest. Students will then conduct an Inquiry Project or a Classroom Project about the Middle Ages.
